Nexium, commonly known by its brand name, Nexilis, is a medication widely used to treat various gastrointestinal conditions. Its development was driven by several objectives: 1. To develop a novel approach to the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), 2. To develop a novel formulation of esomeprazole, 3. To develop esomeprazole for long-term use in patients with erosive esophagitis and erosive heart failure.
The Nexium market is projected to grow from USD 2.1 billion in 2023 to USD 4.2 billion by 2034, reaching USD 6.4 billion by 2034 according to CAGR data. The growth trajectory for the Nexium sector includes growth from generic, branded and injectable formulations, segmented payers, emerging market segments, and specialty and specialty applications.
The Nexium market is segmented into North America (United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand), Europe (Finland, Germany, France, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and trailblazer countries), Asia Pacific (Australia, India and South Korea), and Latin America (Mexico, Brazil, and United Kingdom).
North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific are notable regions for the global Nexium market. North America is expected to grow at the fastest CAGR during the forecast period. The Asia Pacific region, which includes India and South Korea, is anticipated to witness the fastest growth rate during the forecast period. The Latin America region, which includes Mexico and the United Kingdom, will grow at the fastest CAGR during the forecast period[2][3].
The Nexium market is regulated by the Federal Drug and Food Safety Authority (FDA and FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). The Nexium patent held by Nexium manufacturer Pfizer in the United Kingdom (under the brand Esomeprazole) and the U. K. (under its brand Omeprazole) is valid until 2028. This regulatory requirement means that manufacturers can offer their products without requiring prior authorization from the FDA and/or EU member states[1].
